About the Project

Contributing to achieve Strategic Objective 1 and 4, KIRDARC Nepal has been implementing “SAHAYATRA-III Project (Children learn and are safe, Children are protected and Child Rights) in Tatopani Rural Municipality of Kalikot District in partnership with save the children. The overall objective of the integrated project is ‘To promote the quality education, child rights and child protection especially of the marginalized and vulnerable community’. The goals of the project is as follows:

 

Goals:

Goal 1: All children, including the most deprived and marginalized, learn from an inclusive and quality basic education.

Goal 2: All school-aged children in are safe and protected in and around schools.

Goal 3: To eliminate child marriage and early pregnancy in accordance with the ‘National Strategy to End Child Marriage in Nepal’.

Goal 4: All girls and boys are protected from all forms of physical and psychological abuse in all settings.

Goal 5: Local, state and federal governments in Nepal held to account by a strong civil society to meet their obligation to protect children’s rights.

 

Job Purpose:

The Psychosocial Counselor is responsible for overall management of Facilitate teachers to develop lesson plan, developing learning materials focusing to Nepali, Mathematics and English under SAHAYATRA-III and responsible to develop case stories, periodic reports and sharing it to line manager. Similarly, s/he will be responsible for close coordination with project team, child protection mechanisms, health professionals, women and children service center at Palika for the integration of vulnerable children through psychosocial counseling service.

The PRP will also facilitate mobile meeting, ten materials, ten skills make effective teaching and learning workshop, Integrated curriculum training and management of coach/mentor on co-funding basic with municipality, provision of innovation to school, performance-based awards to teachers and schools etc. of Sahayatra III project, in close coordination and collaboration with KIRDARC Project Coordinator-Education, program director and as well as SCI project coordinator-education.

 

Key Responsibilities: –

  1. Core Responsibility:
  • Monthly action plan and progress report should be prepared and submitted to the municipality and supervisors. While developing the monthly action plan, especially in classes ECCD to 3, of at least 8 to 10 schools should be visited in a month to support to the teachers in teaching and learning.
  • Facilitate teachers to develop lesson plan, developing learning materials focusing to Nepali, Mathematics and English
  • Facilitate and ensure schools conducting Classroom Based Early Grade Reading Assessment (CB-EGRA) based on Integrated Curriculum.
  • Facilitate and provide support to the teachers on remedial support to the children, Grade teaching, multi-grade teaching, teaching without punishment, Classroom management, and use of curriculum and teacher’s guide into the classroom.
  • Conduct the survey in the need of capacity development to the teachers and provide coaching-mentoring support accordingly.
  • Facilitate and support teachers and parents for the continuation of children’s learning during the COVID pandemic and in the normal situation through home schooling, school at home, tole education etc.
  • Facilitate and support early grade teachers on conducting CAS based on the Integrated Curriculum.
  • Facilitate and support teachers on using digital platform on teaching learning process.
  • Writing and publishing case stories, news stories based on program achievements, good practices problems, etc.
  • Participate in different capacity building activities in municipality level and out of districts.
  • Other works related to municipality and Sahyatra project team will have to be done as per requirement.
  1. Coordination and Representation:
  • Establish strong institutional relationship with relevant government agencies practically local level, schools, Municipality Education Committee, Municipality Education unit etc. for KIRDARC visibility and sustainability of the project intervention.
  • Represent KIRDARC in project related meeting, workshop in the R/Municipality.
  • Attend meeting, workshops and other information dissemination events with different R/Municipality and to provide constructive suggestions and field level feedbacks to the project staff of funding partner.
  • “Coordinate with the entire projects within KIRDARC Nepal and municipality education unite sharing the learning and best practices.
  • Make effective coordination with local government and education stakeholders for effective implementation of the project.
  1. Monitoring, Reporting and Knowledge management:
  • Conduct regularly school and ECCDs visits with appropriate tools and checklists, including interaction with teachers, SMC members specially coaching mentoring to teacher in classroom.
  • Provided technical support in collecting quality data collaboration with MEAL team and analyses against the performance indicators and targets on periodic basis.
  • Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly project review reports to concerned line manager and as per requirements an agreed time schedule.
  • Document key learning from the information produced through the implementation, monitoring, evaluations and accountability mechanisms.
  • Document case studies, best practices, news cutting, process, visual documentation, and other as per the project requirements.
  • Produce at least one case study/ success story with evidence and disseminate.
  1. Child Safeguarding:
  • Employee should be strictly abiding with the child safeguarding policy, code of conduct of the organization. S/he should be followed all the child protection policies of the respective organization.
  • Support to Project Coordinator and Program Manager to providing thematic support.
  • S/he will assist to the organization and Supervisor as per need on job related work
  • Follow the organizational guidelines, code of conduct, staff administration policy, financial procedures and others rule and regulations.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by Line Manager and KIRDARC cluster office management team members.

 

Key Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education (preferred Master’s degree in Education) and having 3 years’ experience in education project or at least 5 years of teaching or teacher training facilitation.
  • The candidates should spend around 90% time in the field to support the teacher in classroom specially coaching & mentoring as per the JD
  • Should have skill leadership, team management by assigning work, developing work procedures consistent with policy.
  • Should have Knowledge and skill on teacher training facilitation skills as well as coaching mentoring skills, skills in preparing and using teaching-learning materials.
  • Should have Gook knowledge and skills on child friendly teaching learning methodology and skills on inclusive teaching learning materials development.
  • Sound interpersonal skills with ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Ability to work in a stressful and changing environment with limited resources.
  • Willingness to keep abreast of new developments through the continued learning.
  • Very good understanding contemporary child rights issues, activities and approaches.
  • Very good skill and knowledge in documentation and reporting in Nepali and English.
  • Very good skills and knowledge in documentation and reporting in English and Nepali. Excellent computer skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Commitment to the aims and principles of KIRDARC a good understanding of the KIRDARC mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues underpin our support.
  • Familiarity with key National and international Education related policies.
