KIRDARC Nepal Welcomes Everest Summiteer Akkal Bohara and Announces Him as Goodwill Ambassador

Karnali Integrated Rural Development and Research Centre (KIRDARC) Nepal proudly welcomed Mr. Akkal Bohara, Everest summiteer and inspiring youth from the remote Tharp village of Mugu, to its central office in Sanepa, Lalitpur today. During a special ceremony, KIRDARC officially announced Mr. Bohara as the organization’s Goodwill Ambassador.
Born on April 17, 1979, in Tharpa, Chhayanath Rara Municipality–13 of Mugu district, Karnali Province, Akkal Bahadur Bohara is a celebrated marathoner, having won the Kathmandu National Marathon three times and placing second in the Everest Marathon an embodiment of resilience and national pride. His extraordinary journey from one of Nepal’s most remote villages to the summit of Mount Everest stands as a powerful symbol of perseverance, vision, and the boundless potential and serves as a source of inspiration for the entire Karnali region and other underserved areas across Nepal.
Mr. Bohara, who is deeply committed to social service and community empowerment, has actively engaged in motivating youth and raising awareness about the challenges faced by his native region. His appointment as Goodwill Ambassador aligns with KIRDARC’s vision of promoting local champions who lead meaningful change from within their communities.
As part of its mission, KIRDARC continues working tirelessly to reach the unreached, ensuring that marginalized populations gain access to education, livelihoods, good governance, and climate resilience. The organization is also advocating for climate justice and advancing the mountain agenda on both national and global platforms ensuring the inclusion of highland and mountain communities in climate dialogue and decision-making. With the engagement of Mr. Bohara as Goodwill Ambassador, KIRDARC envisions more effective community advocacy, and wider recognition of the unique challenges faced by mountain populations. His involvement adds momentum to KIRDARC’s ongoing efforts to promote inclusive development and resilience in Nepal’s most vulnerable regions.
Mr. Bohara expressed that climbing Everest was not just a personal dream it was a tribute to his homeland, his people, and the aspiring youth of Karnali who dare to dream big. He affirmed his commitment to contribute meaningfully to KIRDARC’s mission, particularly in the areas of youth empowerment, education, and climate awareness.
The appointment of Mr. Akkal Bohara as Goodwill Ambassador marks a significant milestone in KIRDARC Nepal’s journey to foster inclusive, resilient, and dignified communities by uplifting local leadership and expanding the voice of the often overlooked.
