Project Background:
Kalikot district is located in Mid-Western Region of Karnali Zone. This district is alienated from jumla in 2034 B.S so it is regard as the youngest district of Nepal. It is one of the socially economically politically, geographically, and educationally most backward district among other districts of Nepal. Around 95% people of this district involve in substantive agriculture. Most of the people are living under poverty line, uneducated, unemployment and fighting against hungry. It is excluded from the development due to centrality ruling system of Nepal or ignorance of government. As a result kalikot secured second last position in poverty mapping according to the record of Nepal government. Kalikot district is located in Mid-western Region of Nepal. It is also known as remote district of Nepal, Geographically it is very beck awarded place so, this district has been facing from different Hazards such as drought, Storm, lightening, land slide, snow fall, rainfall, conflict, abduction ETC in schools and communities. Mainly, schools have been facing challenges on school safety and disaster. School Children have been becoming victim of different hazards and disasters, School children and teachers are still ignorance on disaster risk reduction approach in schools, even the minor hazards are being transform in disaster because lack of awareness lack of pre-preparedness plan in schools.
Promoting and strengthening school safety in Nepal through operationalizing the comprehensive school safety framework (CSSF) is the new program running in KIRDARC Nepal Kalikot in the partnership of DIPECHO-VIII, Save the Children. This program is focusing mainly to raise awareness and knowledge about disaster and school safety to mostly lower secondary, secondary and partially to primary level children of school. Project aim is to address on the component including school safety planning, multi hazard risk assessment and resilience education with the joint work under the leadership of government education authorities. Along with these the issues will address working with teachers, community members, SMC and children at local level. Program has been implementing in total of 5 VDC Lalu, Rupsa, Malkot, Mehalmudi, and Raku in 10 schools of Kalikot district. It is a short term project which started from December 2015 and will end at November 2016.
